In today's tough economy, where its easier to produce margin lift from reduced cost-of-goods-sold than it is from increased company sales, management has re-committed to further modernize this business by investing billions of dollars to advance several technology priorities that will optimize the global supply chain in the medium term. One of the key areas is in Smart Supply Chain / Smart Logistics with exciting savings opportunities in the multiple procurement and inventory data sets that power the manufacturing and retailing of so many products to so many customers.
In this new 2022 phase of the project (there was a project hiatus during Covid), our Refresh Desktop tool will re-licensed again to de-duplicate, standardize and spend classify to UNSPSC all materials and services used primarily at the United States distribution centers and retail sites. It will focus on all the stores, DC's, warehouses, fleet, and other assets in the United States in that order. Data will be extracted from multiple systems and this data will be cleansed, de-duplicated and automatically coded to UNSPSC by the Refresh data algorithms and dictionaries. Spend categorization, cataloging, account determination and commodity coding will be all be automated to a significant degree, and so the UNSPSC coding process has to be repeatable and reliable.
One other major use of our Refresh UNSPSC classification here will be for logical tile design in Ariba Guided Buying - driving de-duplicated, fully catalogued buying from the requisitioner straight through to the correct contract - right first time.
