Owned by a China-based, integrated mining company listed on the Hong Kong, New York, and Shanghai stock exchanges, this multinational miner counts multiple flagship Australian mines in its impressive assets base. As a modern commodities provider, the company is well aware that in the current economic climate it will be the lean and clean larger commodity producers that are able to maintain profitability and high levels of optimization under global pricing pressures.
The Australian operation has an excellent professional vision for high-quality spare parts data in the SAP system. One of the important processes at each mine is to maintain their high levels of data cleanliness in a drive towards avoiding material-related outages whilst minimizing waste. This is done today through a master data team and process, but a gap was identified in the tools the team had at their disposal. So various data standardization and cleansing tools were investigated before selecting Refresh Desktop software to fill this gap.
Key in its selection was the software's automated algorithms to cleanse all current and future items not only to UNSPSC & ISO but also to the existing in-house dictionary standards which were found to be of high-quality to begin with. The end goal will be to consistently de-duplicate stock and describe all material and services, unlocking hard-dollar savings through detailed spend rationalization and stock level optimization. This will decrease the cost of goods sold and working capital consumed – keeping these mines clean and lean.
